Justo Sierra Mendes ( Spanish: Justo Sierra Méndez ; January 26, 1848 , Campeche , September 13, 1912 , Madrid ) - Mexican political and literary figure. Member of the Centificos group.

He received a law degree, taught history at a preparatory school. In 1905-1911, Sierra Mendes served as Minister of Education and Fine Arts in the government of Porfirio Diaz . Since 1912, he served as envoy to Spain .

Adhered to liberal- positivist views. In 1902, the Sierra proclaimed the slogan “Mexicanization of knowledge,” calling for the restoration of the historical role of the mestizo as a specifically Mexican type, which was important for the process of nation building. In his historical conception, Sierra tried to free himself from previously imposed schemes, to find specific patterns of the country's development.

The most famous works of Justo Sierra - “The National History of Mexico” and “The Political Evolution of the Mexican People” - in which he reflected the patriotism of the Mexicans, their struggle against foreign invaders during the American-Mexican War and the Anglo-Franco-Spanish intervention , and the important role of President Benito Juarez in this fight.
