History
On the territory of Yalgimäe, a sacrificial stone of the Bronze Age and the remains of the settlement were found. Both objects are under state protection [2] [3] .
The village was first mentioned in 1241 in a Danish land book called “Jalkemætæ” [4] [5] . According to the book, the settlement was 6 sokh and originally belonged to Ivar Tagesen, a Danish politician in the mid-13th century, and then Herman Foot, a vassal of the Order of the Swordsmen . The name of the village allegedly comes from the coat of arms of Herman Foote, on which three legs were depicted ( Est. Jälg - trace) [6] .
Later, a side manor of Saue was built in Yalgimäe. On February 2, 1656, the owner of the manor, Ewold von Scharenberg, sold it to Dietrich von Capell, after which the manor became independent [7] . In the village there was a brewery and a brick factory [4] .
From 1821 to 1919, the manor belonged to the von Glen family [8] . The botanist Peter von Glen and the founder Nymme Nikolai von Glen were born here.
In 1866, during the Estland province , on the basis of the lands of the Yalgimäe manor, the Yalgimie volost was created, which existed until 1891 [9] and was combined with the Saue volost [10] .
As a result of the land reform of 1920 in independent Estonia , the land of the manor became a rural settlement ( Est. Asundus ) [11] . On December 5, 1945, after the advent of Soviet rule, the village became part of the Pääskylä village council , which in 1954 was merged with the village councils of Saue and Jõgisoo . [10] In 1977, Yalgimäe received the status of a village [11] .
