History
The desert was founded on the right bank of the Old Oskol at the foot of the Gorokhovat rocks (not far from the modern village of Gorokhovatka, Kharkiv region ). The date of foundation is unknown, but in 1698 the monastery already existed and was under the jurisdiction of the Svyatogorsky monastery . In 1760, it was moved due to flooding on the left bank of the Oskol, closer to the Borovoy farm. The statement in 1784 states the desert:
“It lies on the left bank of the Oskol, at the Peshchan lakes and two nameless ones, it is over the staff, around its fence with two towers; in that fence there is a church in the name of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos, of the construction and fraternal cells of the wooden ”.
Closed in 1788 due to the spread of secularization reform in the Kharkov province . At the closure of the monastery, the brethren consisted of four monks, who, by appointment of the Theological Consistory , were to go to the Putivl Sofronievsky deserts , but, if they so wished, went to the Kuryazhsky monastery .
The temple of the desert was transformed into a parish for monastic peasants, and in 1794 transferred to another place for the settlement Borovoy formed here, and in the place of the temple a cemetery was arranged. In the church that was transferred to Borovoy, there was a venerated Akhtyrka Icon of the Mother of God .
