History
In 1896, Finland adopted a new liberal law on the state church. Disappointed by the changes, by 1923 the Lutheran communities in six cities and the five pastors who nurtured them left the ELCF and continued their activities, despite financial difficulties and the absence of their own church buildings. In 1928, these independent communities founded the Free Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland. In 1967, the church changed its name and became known as the Finnish Church of the Lutheran Confession.
