Biography
The novice of at [1] . Perhaps for some time he was a monk [2] . In 964 he was appointed abbot in Winchester [3] . On May 2, 980, he was ordained [4] . He took the chair of the Archbishop of Canterbury after the death of Dunstan in 988 . Perhaps, until his death, he retained the positions of abbot and bishop, already being the archbishop of Canterbury.
Archbishop Etelgar received two letters from monasteries in Flanders . One of the abbot Falrad, who considered his predecessor Ethelgar, Dunstan to be his spiritual teacher; the second letter was from Odbert, rector of the . Both authors have requested financial assistance for their monasteries [5] [6] .
He died on February 13, 990.
