The memorial complex “To the Fallen Soldiers” is a monument with eternal flame in Rostov-on-Don in the Frunze Square on Karl Marx Square. Dedicated to soldiers and civilians who died in the Great Patriotic War . The monument was unveiled in 1969. The authors of the memorial are sculptors E. G. Mirzoev and A. V. Simonenko [1] . Since 1975, the Eternal Flame has been operating Post No. 1 . The memorial complex “To the fallen soldiers” has the status of a cultural heritage site of local significance [2] .

Content
History
In 1943, after the liberation of the city, a mass grave appeared in the Frunze square, where more than 300 Soviet soldiers and civilians who died during the occupation and in the battles for Rostov were buried. In April 1957, a monument was erected at the mass grave. On May 9, 1959, an eternal flame was lit on a mass grave [3] . Heroes of the Soviet Union P. A. Samokhin and N. N. Pavlenko were awarded the right to light an eternal flame [4] . In its current form, the memorial was built in 1969 [1] , it was several times reconstructed [4] . Since May 9, 1975, Post No. 1 has been operating at the eternal flame. Rostov high school students in any weather carry a guard at the memorial [3] .
Description
The memorial is a massive concrete half-ring mounted horizontally on two supports. On the inside of the ring is a metal bas-relief depicting the grieving Mother Motherland . In her right hand she holds a laurel branch . Eternal flame burns in the center of the ring. It is framed by a five-pointed star, which rests on 45 closed bayonets . According to the authors of the memorial, the half-ring symbolizes forcibly interrupted life. The authors of the monument are Rostov sculptors E. G. Mirzoev, S. P. Vasiliev and architect L. V. Simonenko [4] .
