Spolsky, Joel

Joel Spolsky ( born Joel Spolsky , born in 1965 ) is a programmer and writer. Known primarily as the author of the blog "Joel on Software" ( Joel on Software ), in which he discusses programming issues, especially under Windows . In 1991-1994, he served as product manager in the Microsoft Excel team. He founded the company Fog Creek Software , in which he now works.

Biography

Spolsky was born in Albuquerque , New Mexico , and lived there until he was 15 years old [2] . Then, with his family, he moved to Jerusalem in Israel , where he graduated from high school and served in the airborne troops [2] . In 1987, he returned to the USA to go to college . He studied at the University of Pennsylvania for a year, until he transferred to Pearson College at Yale University , where in 1991 he received a diploma in computer science with honors [2] .

Spolsky began working at Microsoft in 1991 [3] as the head of the Microsoft Excel programmer team, where he designed Excel Basic [4] . He moved to New York in 1995, where he worked for Viacom and Juno. [2] In 2000, he founded Fog Creek Software and created the Joel Software Blog [3] . “Joel about software” was “one of the first blogs started by a businessman” [5] .

Spolsky is a co-founder (jointly with Jeff Atwood) of the Stack Overflow question and answer system [6] . Jeff left the team in February 2012. [7]

He is also the author of the kanban program for small companies for production planning - Trello .
