Elisenda de Moncada

Elisenda de Moncada was born in 1292 in Moncada, in Catalonia. She was the daughter of Pedro II, Baron de Moncada and de Ayton and Elisenda de Pinos.

December 25, 1322 in Tarragona, she was married to Jaime II , King of Aragon , Valencia , Sardinia and Corsica , Count of Barcelona and other lands of Catalonia. This was the fourth and last marriage of the king, three years before the widowed wedding for the third time. Jaime II hoped through this union to strengthen relations between the throne of Aragon and the younger branch of the influential feudal clan Moncada, which had numerous possessions in Catalonia and Sicily.

In 1326, Queen Elisenda de Moncada founded a convent in Pedralbes , a suburb of Barcelona, ​​entrusting his care to the nuns from the Order of the Clarissins . The following year, she was widowed and settled in a house next to the monastery she founded. Here the Dowager Queen lived thirty-seven years. Elisenda de Moncada died in 1364 and was buried in the monastery of Pedralbes.

The marriage of Elisenda de Moncada and Jaime II of Aragon was childless.
