Club career
Burki began playing football in his hometown of Münsingen, and at the age of 14 he was invited to the Young Boys Academy. There he spent 4 years, of which two Burki played for the Young Boys U-21 youth team. In 2009, Burki began to travel on leases. In the 2009/10 season, he spent six months at Tuna . Roman began the 2010/11 season as part of the Schaffhausen , where he played 9 matches, after which he returned to the Young Boys and even managed to play two matches in the national championship , and then again went on lease.
From the beginning of 2011, Burki began to speak for Grasshopper on loan. In the 2.5 years spent as part of the grasshoppers, Burki played 75 matches and became the first number of the team, having won the competition against experienced David Taini , as a result of which Grasshopper's leadership bought out a contract for a young goalkeeper for 1.8 million euros. The main success in Burkei's club career came in 2013, when Grasshopper won the Swiss Cup for the first time in 10 years, winning the final in the Basel penalty shoot-out.
On May 24, 2014, Burke moved to the German Freiburg with the aim of replacing Oliver Baumann [2] . Burki spent all 34 championship matches in his new club, but even a great goalkeeper game could not help Freiburg to avoid relegation to the second Bundesliga .
June 14, 2015 Burki moved to Dortmund Borussia , signing a contract until 2019 [3] . In the first season, Roman became the main goalkeeper of the Dortmund. In the first four matches in various tournaments, Burki managed to keep their goal intact. The Swiss goalkeeper missed the first goal only in the 78th minute of the match of the third round against the Berlin Hertha .
Team Career
On August 28, 2008, Roman Burki made his debut as part of the youth national team of Switzerland (under 19 years old). In a friendly match against the Moldavian national team, Roman spent all 90 minutes, and the match ended with a score of 9: 0 in favor of the Swiss. On August 10, 2011, Burki made his debut in the youth national team of Switzerland , having come out at the base in a friendly match against the Italian team . Burki spent the whole match, which ended with a score of 1: 1. In the qualifying tournament for the European Youth Championship in 2013, Burki spent all the matches, but in the butt matches the Swiss lost the German team in the sum of two fights (2: 4). In November 2014, Roman made his debut in the national team of Switzerland , playing in a friendly match against the national team of Poland , which ended with the score 2: 2. In May 2015, Burki spent his second match in a T-shirt of the national team, leaving the main team in a duel against the US team .
In January 2019, Burki decided to suspend his career in the national team in order to focus on Borussia: “After six years and three tournaments with the Swiss national team, the decision to concentrate on playing for my club, the Dortmund Borussia, has matured in the past few weeks. I hope that the young Swiss goalkeepers will seize the chance to prove themselves ” [4] .
