Biography
Born on July 14, 1919 in the village of Khazhin, Berdichevsky district, Kiev province (now Berdichevsky district, Zhytomyr region of Ukraine ).
After the death of parents, since 1929 , was brought up with relatives in the city of Fastov, Kiev region .
In 1936 he graduated from high school, and in 1941 - Kiev State University named after T. G. Shevchenko .
In the Red Army - since July 1941 . The participant of the Great Patriotic War: in August 1941 - April 1942 - reconnaissance, signalman and gunner of the guns of the 822nd artillery regiment (South-Western Front). He participated in the Kiev defensive operation and defensive battles in Ukraine. In October 1942 he graduated from the accelerated course of the Podolsk Artillery School (in the city of Bukhara, Uzbekistan). From November 1942 - Chief of Intelligence of the Division, Battery Commander, Chief of Staff of the Division and Assistant Chief of Staff of the 816th Artillery Regiment of the 281st Infantry Division (Volkhovsky, Leningrad and 2nd Byelorussian fronts). He participated in the defense and lifting of the blockade of Leningrad, Leningrad-Novgorod, Vyborg, Mlavsko-Elbing, East-Pomeranian and Berlin operations. In the battles he was wounded three times. Member of the CPSU (b) / CPSU .
Especially distinguished in the Vyborg operation. On June 13, 1944, near the village of Rautu (now - the village of Sosnovo, Priozersky District of the Leningrad Region), the battery destroyed the enemy’s firing points with fire. On June 15, 1944, in a battle near the village of Siyranmäki (nowadays it does not exist, the territory of the Vyborg district of the Leningrad region), participating in the assault on an important height, first burst into the enemy’s trench. On June 16, 1944, his battery, together with rifle subunits, repulsed 7 enemy counterattacks.
For courage and heroism shown in battles, by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of July 21, 1944, Senior Lieutenant Vladimir Iosifovich Mostovy was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal.
After the end of the war, Mostovoy continued to serve in artillery as an assistant chief of staff of the regiment and assistant chief of staff of a brigade (in the Northern Group of Forces, Poland and the Tauride Military District). Since March 1946, Captain Mostovoi in reserve.
Then he worked at the Laboratory of Measuring Instruments of the USSR Academy of Sciences (later transformed into the Institute of Atomic Energy of the USSR Academy of Sciences named after I. Kurchatov ): research scientist (1947–1954), head of the sector (1954–1974), head of the laboratory of neutron physics (1974–1989). ) and chief researcher (since 1989).
For research on the determination of spontaneous fission of plutonium in 1949 by secret government decrees in the group of participants in the development of the first Soviet nuclear bomb, he was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor and the Stalin Prize of II degree.
Specialist in the field of neutron physics, fission physics and reactor physics. Together with other scientists, he created a neutron spectroscopy method for time-of-flight, discovered neutron resonances and determined their parameters. The largest specialist in the field of nuclear fission processes. December 26, 1984, was elected Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences for the Division of Nuclear Physics [1] .
Died October 18, 1996 at the age of 78. He was buried at Kuntsevo Cemetery in Moscow.
