Holy Cross Church (Raisins)

The Holy Cross Church in the town of Izium was built in 1719 on Pervomaiskaya Street with the money of the parishioners ^{[1] [3]} . The first building was wooden ^{[2] [3] [4]} .

At that time, the church buried the dead from anthrax and plague ^[3] .

On May 4, 1747, the temple building burnt down ^{[3] [4]} .

Later, with the money of the inhabitants of Jacob Katruhi and Jacob Onishchenko, a new wooden church was built, which was consecrated in 1751 ^{[3] [4]} . However, already in 1752, the church building became so dilapidated that a new wooden church was built at the expense of Fyodor Krasnokutsky ^{[3] [4]} .

In 1821, a new stone church was built, which has survived to the present day ^{[3] [4]} .

During the Great Patriotic War, the bell tower was destroyed, and in 1950 it was demolished during the construction of the highway ^[5] .

During Soviet times, a furniture store worked in the church ^{[2] [4]} .

Since 2010, the church has a Sunday school ^{[1] [4]} .

In 2013, the church is working on the restoration of wall paintings made by artists from the school of V. M. Vasnetsov ^{[1] [2] [3] [4]} . It is believed that the image of the Archangel Gabriel was written by Vasnetsov himself. ^{[ clarify ] [4]} .

The church was founded in the style of classicism ^{[1] [4]} .

In the 19th century, side chapels were added to the temple, where a two-column portico of the Tuscan order was located in the west, and an altar on the east side ^{[2] [4]} .
