Offseason

Because of the lockout, several Toronto players began the season at European clubs, including the KHL .

Players who had bilateral contracts played in the AHL for the Maple Leafs Farm Club - Toronto Marlies .

On November 2, it was announced that the league would cancel the Winter Classic match due to be locked on January 1 at the Michigan Stadium with the participation of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings . ^[5]

On January 9, 2013, Toronto general manager Brian Bourke was fired. ^[6] The new general manager was his assistant Dave Nonis ^[7] .

Regular Season

The day before the start of the regular season, it became known that striker Tim Connolly was put up for draft rejection ^[8] . As explained by general manager Dave Nonis , this was due to the fact that Connolly does not fit the game system of head coach Randy Carlyle ^[9] . Not a single club took Connolly from the rejection draft, and he spent the rest of the season in the AHL at the Toronto Marlies club.

On January 29, one of the team leaders Joffrey Lupul received a broken arm ^[10] and was out of action for at least 6 weeks ^[11] .

Due to injury ^[12], another forward, Leo Komarov, missed two weeks in late March – early April ^[13] .

On April 8, it was announced that the Winter Classic match, which was scheduled to take place on January 1, 2013, was postponed to the next season and will take place on January 1, 2014 ^[14] . In this match, as previously planned, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings will play.

Playoffs

Toronto entered the playoffs for the first time since 2004 . Maple Leafs became the only NHL club to never play in the playoffs between the two lockouts of 2004-05 and 2012. The Boston Bruins took fourth place in the Eastern Conference and therefore had the Toronto rival in the quarter-finals. advantage of its ice. As a result, “Boston” won in the sum of seven matches (4–3), the winning goal in overtime of the seventh match scored by Patrice Bergeron .

Other

Toronto has become the most expensive NHL club according to Forbes magazine ^[15] . Its value was estimated at 1 billion dollars .
