Player Career
He played as an attacking defender and light forward . He studied at the University of Santa Clara , in 1945 he signed a contract with the Oshkosh All Stars team, which played in the National Basketball League (NBL) . He later played for the Washington Capitals team, which in turn played for the Basketball Association of America (BAA) , the forerunner of the NBA, and coached by Red Auerbach . In total, he spent 1 season in the NBL, and 4 seasons in the BAA / NBA. Twice included in the 1st team of all the stars of the BAA ( 1947 - 1948 ), and also once - in the 2nd team of all the stars of the BAA ( 1949 ). During his career in the NBL, he played 21 games in which he scored 198 points (an average of 9.4 per game). Coach Career
The last season as a player, Firik, after the departure of Red Auerbach , was a playing coach for the Washington Capitals home team (1949-1950). After completing his professional career, he became the head coach of the basketball team of his native university, Santa Clara Broncos , serving in the NCAA , which he coached for twelve seasons (1950-1962). Then Phyric changed his residence registration, going to the Wilt Chamberlain club “ Philadelphia Warriors ”, which in 1962 moved to his hometown of San Francisco , and worked in it as head coach for only one year (1962-1963).
