Al-Quds University has over 30 research institutes and laboratories, including the Institute of Forensic Medicine, the Center for the Study of Jerusalem, the Institute of Modern Mass Information and the Museum of Mathematics [2] .
Campuses
Al-Quds University has a number of campuses in various parts of Jerusalem and its suburbs: Abu Dis (the main campus, including medical and engineering faculties and the faculty of science and technology, including departments of computer science and information technology, science and natural sciences), Beit Safafa (Faculty of Economics, business Administration and Law), Old town (archaeological Department and the magistrate and doctorate ) and Sheikh Jarrah (women's college with teaching and the Faculty of humanities and Faculty of social on k) [1] .
In 2003, the presence of several geographically separated campuses could lead to a security barrier under construction between them. The barrier could also pass through the campus at Abu Dis, cutting off a third from it. After a public protest campaign, US intervention, and negotiations between the university’s president and the Israeli security ministry’s general director, a decision was made to change the configuration of the barrier, which eventually went around the campus at Abu Dis, capturing only a small part of its territory [3] .
International cooperation and accreditation
Since 1997, Al-Quds University has established scientific contacts with the private Brandei University ( Waltham , Massachusetts, USA), known for its Jewish connections. In 1997, Brandeu University was visited by Al-Quds University President Sari Nuseibe , and with a return visit in 2003 by Brandei University President Yehuda Reinharz, the partnership of the two institutions became permanent, having received official status since 2004 [4] .
Another American university that cooperates with Al-Quds University is Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson (New York). These two universities conduct joint educational programs, one of which gives a double academic degree [2] . Teaching medical specialties at Al-Quds University is supported by Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore [5] .
Unlike a number of other Palestinian universities (in particular, the Islamic University in Gaza ), degrees awarded by Al-Quds University are not recognized in Israel. This has the most effect on Israeli students studying medical specialties at al-Quds University. Annually, about a third of the 80 graduates of Al-Quds Medical School are Israeli students, who then cannot be certified and get permission to work in Israel. The problem of accreditation is related to the fact that the main campus is located in the city of Abu Dis , located in the zone B of the West Bank. Jordan is under civilian control of the PNA , but other campuses are located in Jerusalem, annexed by Israel. Thus, from the point of view of the Israeli authorities, Al-Quds University cannot receive either the status of an Israeli university or the status of a foreign university [1] .
