Corporate Wiki

Enterprise wikis ( English. Enterprise wikis ) - software using wikis- technologies, intended for use in the corporate information system [1] , primarily to ensure internal corporate knowledge management . Most proprietary wikis are specifically marketed as enterprise solutions, among them Atlassian Confluence , Socialtext , Jive , SamePage and Traction TeamPage . In addition, some open source wikis are also marketed as enterprise solutions, including XWiki , Foswiki , which is referred to as the "free and open enterprise collaboration platform" [2] and TWiki , which is characterized as an "open-source enterprise wiki." [3] . Some open source wikis, although not specifically positioned as enterprise solutions, have guides for corporate users, including TikiWiki [4] and MediaWiki [5] . Many other wikis are also used in enterprises.

Companies and government organizations that use corporate wikis include Adobe Systems , Amazon.com , Intel , Microsoft , the U.S. intelligence community, the U.S. Department of Defense , the U.S. Department of State, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) .

In organizations, a corporate wiki can replace or complement a corporate content management system . The decentralized nature of corporate wikis allows them to distribute the necessary information throughout the organization faster and cheaper than a centralized repository of knowledge. Corporate wikis can also be used for document management , project management , customer relationship management , enterprise resource planning , and many other types of data management.

Features of wikis useful for corporate governance include:

  • The ability to enter information using fast and simple algorithms for creating pages containing links to other corporate information resources, thereby accelerating the formation of the knowledge base .
  • Ability to avoid email overload. Wikis allow you to distribute all the necessary information among people involved in this project. Conversely, only users of the corporate wiki interested in this project will be able to view related wiki pages, unlike mailing lists, which can contain a large amount of redundant information for users. It is also very useful for the project manager, because it allows you to store all communications in one place, which makes it possible to link the responsibility for each action with a specific employee.
  • Structuring information. Wikis allow users to structure both new and existing information. The data structure , like the content, can sometimes also be edited by users.
  • Consensus building . Wiki allows you to structure the expression of opinions on a specific issue on one page. This feature is very useful when writing documentation, preparing presentations, when the opinions of project participants differ.
  • Differentiation of rights and roles . Users may be denied access to view and / or edit this page, depending on their role in the organization and this project.
  • Knowledge management with a comprehensive search option. This includes document management and project management, personnel management, etc.
