Biography
Born on February 28, 1922 in the village of Petrovo, now the Silver-Prudsky District of the Moscow Region, into a peasant family. In the Red Army since 1939. In 1940 he graduated from Borisoglebsk military aviation school of pilots .
From June 1941 he fought in the Great Patriotic War. By August 1942, the commander of the 123rd Fighter Aviation Regiment (7th Fighter Aviation Corps, Air Defense Forces of the country), Senior Lieutenant V.N. Kharitonov made 281 combat sorties, personally shot down 10 in 58 air battles and in the group of 16 enemy aircraft . For these feats was presented to the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated February 10, 1943, for exemplary performance of the combat tasks of the command on the front of the struggle against the German fascist invaders and the courage and heroism shown at that, he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.
In total, during the war years, more than 400 combat sorties, conducted about 80 air battles, personally shot down 18 and in the group of 11 enemy aircraft [1] . Among these aircraft - 19 bombers flying bombed besieged Leningrad.
In 1945 he graduated from the courses for the improvement of the officers, in 1955 - the flight tactical courses for the improvement of the officers of the Air Force. Since 1958, the colonel in the reserve, and then retired.
He worked at the Leningrad United Aviation Enterprise, for 28 years he headed flights at Pulkovo Airport . Consisted of the United Council of Veterans of the Air Defense Forces of the City, the Committee of Leningrad Veterans of War and Military Service.
He died on April 27, 2002. He was buried in St. Petersburg on the alley of gentlemen of the Order of Alexander Nevsky Nikolsky cemetery of the Alexander Nevsky Monastery [2] .
