Biography

Born in Siedlce in a working class family [1] . After World War II, he graduated from a trade school, then the Higher School of Economics in Poznan and the Warsaw School of Planning and Statistics . In 1950 - 1952 he worked as an assistant at the Higher School of Economics in Poznan. In 1952-1956 he served as an officer of the Polish Army , had the rank of captain. Member of the PUWP since 1951 .

In 1956 - 1958 he worked as the director of the department in the Ministry of Procurement, then as the chief inspector in the Ministry of Food Industry and Procurement. In the same years he continued his studies at the Main School of Planning and Statistics.

From 1958 he worked in the Warsaw Voivodeship People’s Council, later became the Secretary of the Scientific and Economic Council, and from March 22, 1965 to December 3, 1971 - Chairman of the Presidium of the People’s Council (Voivode) of the Warsaw Voivodeship .

From 1969 to 1985 he was elected deputy of the Sejm of the NDP .

From October 1971 to February 1974 - First Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission at the Council of Ministers of Poland.

From December 1971 to July 1981, a member of the Central Committee of the PUWP .

From February 1974 to August 1980, the Secretary of the Central Committee, from February to August 1980, a candidate for membership in the Politburo of the Central Committee of the PUWP.

In the middle of summer 1980, the situation in Poland escalated to an explosive situation. Trying to maintain power, the then leadership of the country, headed by E. Gerek, made serious personnel changes.
On August 24, 1980, Y. Pinkovsky became a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the PUWP and Acting Chairman of the NDP Council of Ministers (approved by the Sejm on this post on September 5).

However, already on September 6, E. Gerek lost his post, but the situation was already difficult to fix. Poland continued to be in a fever and six months later, on February 11, 1981, the Minister of Defense General Wojciech Jaruzelski was appointed the new head of government [2] .

After the resignation, he withdrew from active political activity.

He died in Warsaw on November 8, 2000 and was buried in the Powzki military cemetery in Warsaw.

Rewards

He was awarded the highest award of the NDP Order of Builders of People's Poland in 1979 . He also has other Polish awards of the Order “Banner of Labor” of the second degree and the Order of the Renaissance of Poland .
