Boro ( born Borough , sometimes Boro ) is a type of self-governing municipality in the state of Pennsylvania . Boro size is usually smaller than a city. In total, there are 958 boros in the state [1] .
All the municipalities of Pennsylvania are divided into cities, municipalities with the right of local government, Boro or Townships [1] . The only exception is the city of Bloomsburg , to which the state government granted the status of a self-governing urban settlement, the only one in the state [2] . However, many municipalities with the right of local government for various reasons are classified as Boro or Township, despite the fact that the State Boro and Township Code does not apply to them.
