Sukhoi Nos is a cape on the island of Northern Archipelago Novaya Zemlya , owned by the Russian Federation . The cape is located in the south-west of the island, 50 km from the entrance to Matochkin Shar , which separates the North and South islands. Cape Sukhoi Nos consists of black and reddish shales . At its northern side are underwater shallows. A mass of birds nest on steep cliffs, especially loons [1] .

Known for testing nuclear weapons by the Soviet Union . It was the third polygon of three on two islands of Novaya Zemlya, while it was the northernmost. Used from 1958 to 1962, when the Tsar bomb was blown up here and four more powerful charges in history:
