Sidorenko, Mikhail Fedorovich

Mikhail Fedorovich Sidorenko ( June 29, 1902 ( July 12, 1902 ) - November 5, 1989 ) - Soviet gardener, breeder, author and co-author of 37 peach varieties, director of the Melitopol Experimental Gardening Station , candidate of agricultural sciences (1947), Hero of Socialist Labor (1971).

Biography

In 1924, M.F. Sidorenko graduated from the Krasnogorov Agricultural Professional School. In 1928-1932 he studied at the Poltava Fruit and Berry Institute, specializing in “agronomist-organizer of fruit and berry farming”. After graduation, he was appointed director of the Melitopol Experimental Gardening Station .

During the Great Patriotic War , M.F. Sidorenko served as deputy commander of the North Caucasus Front for political affairs.

After the war, M.F. Sidorenko at the age of 42 led the Melitopol Experimental Gardening Station (since 1972, the Institute of Irrigated Gardening). In the last years of his life, he worked as a scientific consultant to the institute.

Scientific activity

Back in the 1930s, MF Sidorenko began research on the cultivation of cherries in the southern regions of Ukraine. In 1948, he defended his thesis on the results of these studies. Sidorenko published his research in the monograph Cherries.

Sidorenko later engaged in the selection of peach. In 1956, he transferred 9 new varieties to the state test - “Amber”, “Augustovsky”, “Tavria”, “Transportable”, “Priazovsky”, “Zaporizhzhya”, “Sunny”, “Rainbow”, “Early June”. In addition, he co-authored 28 other peach varieties, including the Golden and Melitopolsky Iras varieties, zoned in Ukraine.

M.F. Sidorenko is the author of more than 30 scientific and popular science works, a delegate to the XIV International Congress on Horticulture in the Netherlands (1955) and the International Congress on Cherries and Cherries in Italy (1972), Hero of Socialist Labor (1971), Honored Agronomist of the Ukrainian SSR (1962), Honored Worker of Science of the Ukrainian SSR (1962), winner of 4 gold and 5 silver medals of the Exhibition of Economic Achievements of the USSR .

Memory

  • The garden , led by Sidorenko, now bears his name.
  • Sidorenko named a small street in Melitopol, located 300 meters from the garden.
