Biography
Nikolai Korsun was born on February 23, 1911 in the village of Yarmaki (now the Mirgorod district of the Poltava region of Ukraine ). After graduating from the Electromechanical College, he worked as an electrician at the Frunze plant in the city of Konstantinovka, Stalin Region, Ukrainian SSR . In 1932, Korsun was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1934, he graduated from the Tashkent Cavalry School, in 1942 - advanced training courses for officers. Since August 1941 - on the fronts of World War II [1] .
By April 1945, senior lieutenant Nikolai Korsun commanded a squadron of the 58th Guards Cavalry Regiment of the 16th Guards Cavalry Division of the 7th Guards Cavalry Corps of the 1st Belorussian Front . He distinguished himself during the battles in Germany . On April 26, 1945, the Korsun squadron crossed the Zilo Canal and broke into the city of Brandenburg . As a result of the assault on the local aviation plant, 146 bomber planes, 12 warehouses, and 6 freight wagons were hijacked. On April 23-27 , 1945, the Korsun squadron successfully repelled the German counterattacks, destroying several hundred enemy soldiers and officers [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 31, 1945, for the "exemplary performance of the combat mission of the command in the fight against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown" of the guard, Senior Lieutenant Nikolai Korsun was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Medal Star ” under the number 6452 [1] .
In 1946, with the rank of captain's guard, Korsun was sacked. He returned to Konstantinovka, where he worked first as a normalizer, then as a master of a blast furnace at the Frunze plant. He died on March 16, 1998, was buried in Konstantinovka [1] .
He was also awarded the Order of the Red Banner , World War 1 degree, Red Star , a number of medals [1] .
