Roxana Baldetti ( Spanish: Roxana Baldetti ; born May 13, 1962 , Guatemala ) - Guatemalan statesman. From January 14, 2012 to May 9, 2015 she served as vice president of Guatemala. She was the first woman in this post.

Biography

Childhood and Youth

Roxanne Baldetti was born May 13, 1962 in a conservative, Catholic family. Her parents were Alejandro Baldetti and Gladys Elias de Baldetti. Roxana attended Colegio Monte Carmelo Elementary School, then graduated from Colegio de Señoritas El Sagrado Corazón College of Education in the historic center of Guatemala . She received a bachelor's degree in journalism, graduating from the University of San Carlos of Guatemala [1] [2] .

Career

After receiving her education, she began working as a primary school teacher, then was a news presenter in the Aquí El Mundo program. Roxanne was one of the founders of the television news program Noticias , and then worked at Univision as a correspondent from Guatemala. Roxana also owns a spa and several hairdressers [3] .

Political Activities

In the 1990s, Roxanne became a public servant, taking the post of Secretary of Public Relations. In 2001, she founded the Patriotic Party of Guatemala together with Otto Perez Molina . In 2004, she was elected to the Guatemalan Congress , where she served as Deputy Patriotic Party. On August 15, 2011, she resigned from this post due to the fact that she was going to run in the elections as a candidate for the post of vice president [4] . In 2009, Roxanne became Secretary General of the Patriotic Party [5] .

The election victory was won by the tandem which she was a member of. After that, she took the post of vice president. Soon, however, corruption charges were brought against her. Roxanne resigned in May 2015 and was arrested at the end of August 2015 [6] .

Personal life

In 1987, Roxanne married Mariano Paz, the couple had two children: Luis Pedro and Mario [7] .
