Akiva Govrin ( Hebrew עקיבא גוברין ; born August 12, 1902 , Shpikov , Podolsk Province , Russian Empire - June 26, 1980 , Tel Aviv , Israel ) - Israeli politician, deputy of the Knesset of the first six convocations, minister without portfolio ( 11 ), as well as the first Minister of Tourism of Israel ( 11 , 12 governments).

Biography

Akiva was born in the town of Shpikov, Bratslav County, in the Jewish family of Mordechai Globman ( Hebrew מרדכי גלובמן ) and his wife Ada Kalikhman ( Hebrew עדה קליכמן ). He studied economics in Berlin and Kiev [1] .

Govrin early engaged in Zionist activity, becoming one of the founders and leaders of the He-Halutz youth movement in Shpikov [2] . Immigrated to Mandatory Palestine in 1922 . He worked as a port worker in Haifa , and then as a construction worker in Jerusalem , where he became one of the founders of the local workers council [2] [1] .

Later, Govrin became the founder of the clerical workers union, and since 1925 he was a member of the executive committee of the Histadrut , headed the department of professional associations in 1943-1949 [1] [2] .

In 1949 he was elected to the Knesset of the 1st convocation from the Mapai party , received the post of chairman of the labor commission . In the Knesset of the 2nd, 3rd and 5th convocations he was the chairman of the parliamentary coalition. At various times, Govrin was a member of the commission on economics and the commission on foreign affairs and defense. [2]

Akiva Govrin first entered the government of Israel on December 1, 1963, receiving the post of minister without a portfolio in the first government of Levi Eshkol [3] .

In the second government, Eshkol received the post of Minister of Tourism of Israel [4] .

Govrin died on June 26, 1980, in the seventy-eighth year of his life. In a marriage with Malka Belman ( Heb. מלכה בלמן ) he had two sons: Solomon and David [1] .
