Geographical position
The city is located in the western part of the state, on the right bank of the White Nile , at a distance of approximately 114 kilometers northeast of the city of Malakal , the administrative center of the state and at a distance of 618 kilometers northeast (NNE) from the country's capital, Juba . The absolute height is 362 meters above sea level [2] .

According to the National Bureau of Statistics of the Republic of South Sudan ( National Bureau of Statistics ), the population of Melut in 2010 was 14,554 people [3] .
