Sidefulla is the holy virgin of England . Memorial Days - July 31 at Roscarrock and August 2 at Exeter .
Saint Sidefulla, or Sidwell, or Sativola was, by birth, more British than Anglo-Saxon . In Exeter, it has been known since time immemorial. Even before the year 1000, pilgrims gathered at her crayfish . It is mentioned by William Worcestre and Leland . In the late medieval catalog of English saints, "Catalogus sanctorum pausantium in Anglia", the following text is available:
- Born in Exeter, she was killed by her stepmother,
- persuaded the reapers to decapitate her. She was buried
- outside the city where, according to her merits, the Lord God heals the sick.
- persuaded the reapers to decapitate her. She was buried
This story of the evil stepmother is also found in the legend of St. Utah ( Juthwara , commemorated July 1 ), who is considered the sister of St. Sidwell. For this reason, the indicated tradition is considered mythical, although St. Sidwall was quite real.
Church of St. Sidwell is located at the east gate of Exeter. Near it is a holy spring, the healing properties of which are known. A dedication to the saint is available at Laneast , Cornwall , along with her sister St. Wulfella (Wulvella), where there is also a holy spring.
St. Sidwell is portrayed as a girl with a scythe at the source . She is also depicted carrying her head. The signs of the braid and the source can be inferred from her name.
In honor of the saint named the area of Exeter St. Sidwells ( St Sidwells ).
