“Witness” ( born Eye of the Beholder ) is a 1999 Canadian film directed by Stephen Elliott based on the eponymous novel by Mark Beym. Starring Ewan McGregor and Ashley Judd .

Story
The witness ( Ewan McGregor ) works as a private detective in the agency, the boss instructs him to track his son, who forged his father’s signature and withdrew a large amount of money. Tracking leads him to Joanna Iris ( Ashley Judd ) - a serial killer. Joanna Iris met with the boss's son, but after brutally killed him. A witness takes evidence from a crime scene.
But on the train to Pittsburgh, Iris commits another murder, letting Stephen Wilson drive himself into a corner, he managed to take some pictures of the woman. The witness calls Hilary Katherine Don Lang to work, but, not ending the conversation, turns off the phone. After the divorce, Stephen lost custody of his daughter, and now the girl often sees him. Longing for his daughter makes him see in Iris a vulnerable and lost child. Stephen follows Joanna Iris throughout the country, witnessing new murders. During this time, Stephen managed to find out that Joanna and her father were homeless, but dad left her alone on a festive night, which made Joanna deeply hate all men.
At the airport, Joanna meets Alexander Leonard ( Patrick Bergin ) an old and blind man, feelings flare up between them, Alexander makes an offer to Iris. But, when Iris and Alexander go to the wedding, Stephen shoots three times in the car, she collides with a truck, Alexander dies. Iris collects things and drives through the desert, but along the way the car breaks down. The stranger helps Iris with the car, but then, when they both stayed in the motel room, hits Joanna on the head and injects a dose of heroin. The witness breaks into the room, beats the stranger, puts him in a car with a brick on the pedals. But when he returns to the motel, he is horrified to discover that Joanna drove away in his car. Iris arrives in Chicago, where she gives birth and loses a baby. Police are trying to stop her, but Stephen shoots at their car, diverting attention. Joanna manages to escape.
She flies to Alaska, where she arranges to work as a waitress in a cafe, where Stephen goes daily and one day still decides to speak with her. They stay after the cafe closes, have a drink, Joanna talks about her life and where she wants to be buried, and Stephen tells her about her daughter. The next day, police and former psychiatrist Joanna Dr. Bolt ( Genevieve Bujo) come into the cafe, but hesitate to arrest Iris. Stephen hides her in his trailer and offers to leave, but Joanna is horrified to find that this man has been chasing her all this time, she shoots Stephen with a blank cartridge, as it turned out later, and leaves. Stephen is trying to catch up with her on a motorcycle, Joanna sees him and realizes that this is the "Angel" who helped her, but suddenly Iris's car drives off the road. As a result, Iris dies of wounds in Stephen’s arms and wishes him love.
