Sergei Mikhailovich Shpilevsky ( May 8 [20], 1833 , Moscow - July 21 [ August 3 ] 1907 , Yaroslavl ) - Russian lawyer, local historian, archaeologist, emeritus professor (since 1886) and director of the Demidov Law Lyceum (1885-1904).

Biography
Sergei Mikhailovich Shpilevsky came from nobles; Born in the family of the provincial secretary, who was a clerk in the Moscow Order of Public Charity.
After graduating from the 1st Moscow gymnasium (1845-1852) he entered the law faculty of Moscow University , where he graduated in 1856 with a gold medal. The student of I. D. Belyaev and V. N. Leshkov [1] .
In 1857, he was editor of the Molva newspaper, published by I. S. Aksakov .
In 1860 he received an associate position at Kazan University - he taught the history of Russian and international law; since June 1866 - Associate Professor at the Department of the History of Russian Law; from March 1870 - extraordinary, from May 28 of the same year - an ordinary professor.
In 1866, Moscow University was awarded the master's degree for the dissertation “The Union of Family Protection among the Ancient Germans and Slavs”, and in February 1870, the doctor of state law for the essay “Family authorities among the ancient Slavs and Germans”.
In 1875-1879, Kazan was a separate censor . Publisher-editor of the newspapers “The fact sheet of Kazan” (since 1867) and “Kama-Volzhskoe Slovo” (1882).
From March 17, 1873 until May 1876, he was dean of the law faculty of Kazan University. He initiated the creation of the University of Archeology, History and Ethnography. He was the editor of the unofficial part of the Kazan Provincial Gazette .
In 1877, for the book "Ancient cities and other Bulgarian-Tatar monuments in the Kazan province", he received a prize from the Imperial Academy of Sciences , and for works on archeology he was awarded a large gold medal of the Imperial Russian Archaeological Society.
In 1885 he was appointed director of the Demidov Law Lyceum . On the initiative of Shpilevsky in 1896, the Lyceum established the Legal Society, in which he became the first chairman.
He edited the "Temporary of the Demidov Law Lyceum" and the annex to it - "Legal Bibliography". In February 1901, in honor of the fortieth anniversary of the scientific activity of S.M.
He was one of the founders of the Yaroslavl provincial scientific archival commission and its first chairman (1889-1894). He worked actively in the Yaroslavl Provincial Statistical Committee and the Natural History Society, was a member of the Moscow Archaeological Society .
He retired due to illness on July 1, 1904 with the rank of Privy Councilor .
He died on August 3, 1907 in Yaroslavl , and was buried at the Leontief Cemetery [2] [3] .
