Player Career

He played as a light forward . He studied at the University of West Virginia , in 1949 he was selected by the NBA draft in the third round under the 27th number of the team “ Fort Wayne Pistons ”. He later played for the New York Knicks team. In total, the NBA spent 5 seasons. Once took part in the match of all the NBA stars ( 1951 ). Once included in the 2nd national team of all the NBA stars ( 1950 ). During his career in the NBA, he played 334 games in which he scored 4070 points (an average of 12.2 per game), made 1609 rebounds and 961 assists .

Coach Career

After completing his professional career, Schauss worked for six years as the head coach of the team at his native university, West Virginia Mounters (1954-1960). Then for seven years he coached the NBA club “ Los Angeles Lakers ” (1960-1967), after which he transferred to the position of general manager of this team, where he worked for another five years (1967-1972), eventually becoming, in 1972, on this NBA champion posts. At the end of his coaching career, he worked for six years as the head coach of Purdue University 's Purdue Boylermakers team (1972-1978).
