Hirschfeldia

Hirschfeldia ( lat. Hirschfeldia ) - a monotypic genus of flowering plants of the Brassicaceae family , includes a single species - gray Hirschfeldia ( Hirschfeldia incana ). Very close to the genus Mustard ( Brassica ) [2] .

Botanical Description

In appearance, gray hirschfeldia is very similar to black mustard ( Brassica nigra ), but, as a rule, it is smaller in size and is a perennial rather than an annual plant [3] . Forms a rosette of basal leaves , lobed, flat lying on the ground; leaves are preserved during flowering [4] . The stem and leaves are covered with short white hairs .

Distribution

The species is native to the Mediterranean , but can also be found in other parts of the world as an introduced species, and often even as an invasive species and a large weed plant [5] .

Economic Significance and Application

Hirschfeldia leaves are edible and in some areas are eaten as leafy vegetables [7] .
