Korogodin, Ivan Ivanovich

Ivan Korogodin was born on June 22, 1919 in the village of Koshkino (now Izmalkovsky district of the Lipetsk region ). After the end of eight classes he worked as an accountant, then as an accountant in the Zagotzerno office. In 1939, Korogodin was called up to serve in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1941 he graduated from the Riga Infantry School. Since July of the same year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. In November 1941 he was seriously injured. Returning to the front, he participated in the Battle of Kursk [1] .

By October 1943, Captain Ivan Korogodin commanded the 1st Battalion of the 687th Infantry Regiment of the 141th Infantry Division of the 60th Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front . Distinguished during the battle for the Dnieper . In October 1943, the Korogodin battalion twice crossed the Dnieper , ensuring the successful forcing of the river of two divisions without loss in their personnel. During the crossing of the Dnieper near the village of Okuninovo and battles on the bridgehead, the battalion destroyed 10 machine guns , 2 batteries of mortars , about 2 mouths of enemy infantrymen. October 24, 1943 in a battle near the village of Dmitrievka battalion destroyed more than 400 soldiers and officers of the enemy, captured 15 machine guns, 2 tanks, 5 mortars and 3 guns [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 3, 1944, Captain Ivan Korogodin was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 2457 for "courage and heroism shown in battles with the German invaders" [1] .

He graduated from the postgraduate courses for commanders, then in 1952 the Frunze Military Academy. In 1974, with the rank of Colonel Korogodin, he retired. He lived in Moscow , worked as vice-rector of the All-Union Correspondence Law Institute. He died on February 26, 2003, and was buried at the Kuntsevo cemetery of Moscow [1] .

He was also awarded the Order of the Red Banner , Alexander Nevsky , World War 1 degree, two orders of the Red Star , a number of medals [1] .
