The official languages in the Seychelles are English, French, Seychelles Creole .
Seychelles Creole - Creole based on the French language, by far the most widely spoken language in the archipelago, which is initially spoken by 95% of the population. Nevertheless, the country was a British colony for more than a century and a half, and thus, English remained the main language used in government and business. French was introduced before British rule and remained used mainly due to the Franco-Seychelles minority and the proximity of the language to the Seychelles Creole language.
