Aurelio Saffi Square ( Italian: Piazza Aurelio Saffi ) is the main square in the heart of Forlì in northern Italy , where the main attractions of the city are grouped. It has the shape of a trapezoid and extends 128 m in length and 87 m in width.
In the middle of the square are a fountain and a monument to Aurelio Saffi - the famous figure of Risorgimento [1] . The monument is surrounded by some of the most outstanding and oldest buildings in the city. In the southern part of the square stands the abbey of San Mercurial . Next to it is the Palazzo Paolucci de Calbolli, built at the beginning of the XVIII century .
The eastern part of the square is occupied by the Postal Palace , built in the 1930s in a monumental style characteristic of the period of Mussolini's reign.
In the north stands the city hall , which dates back to the year 1000 . Now it houses the local municipality.
In the western part, on the corner of Corso Diaz Avenue, is the Podesta Palace , built in the Gothic style in 1460 . To his right is the Albertini Palace , an elegant 15th-century Venetian-style building.
