Biography
Born in the family of a German school teacher in Moravsk-Budějovice. In 1890, he moved to Vienna with his parents. In 1899 he entered a military school in Litomerice . However, he was soon expelled for participating in a fight, but probably also for health reasons. He continued his studies in Vienna, Prague and Munich. He became a doctor of philology. At the same time, he expanded his musical education, in particular, under the leadership of Dvorak , and soon decided to devote himself completely to music.
He started as a composer. In 1910 he became the conductor of the Maly Theater in Munich .
At the beginning of his creative career he was associated with the Wittelsbach cabaret in Nuremberg . In subsequent years he was engaged in the creation of songs, texts for them, plays and operettas for cabarets . Some of them sounded not only in Germany, but also in Austria (Vienna). In 1914 he became the music director of the Vienna-based cabaret Rideamus that he created . His operetta Prinzchens Frühlingserwachen (Princess of the Awakening of Spring) was staged at Apollotheater and later appeared on the stage of a British cabaret.
Since 1938 he lived in the USA, and spent the last years of his life (1945-1957) in Zurich ( Switzerland ).
Creativity
Ralph Benacki is the author of more than 5,000 songs. In addition, he composed music for films, radio programs and theatrical productions. First of all, he entered the history of music as the author of operettas, including such as Casanova (1928), Three Musketeers (1929), Under the White Horse (1930), Luxurious Girl (1933) and Axel at the Gates of Paradise (1936)
