Creation History
In May 2010, the Backstreet Boys broke up with their record company Jive Records [1] . In June 2010, Nick Carter announced that the band had begun recording a new album. In another interview, Brian Littrell said that the recording is planned to be completed by early 2011. However, the release of the album had to be postponed due to a joint tour of Backstreet Boys with the band New Kids on the Block . Recording continued between concerts. During a press conference in Vietnam in March 2011, the group first announced that they had received complete creative freedom after breaking up with the label [2] [3] .
In November 2011, after the end of the American part of the NKOTBSB Tour , Carter spoke about plans to release a single in the spring of 2012 and an album in the summer of 2012 [4] . In January 2012, after the unexpected death of his sister, Leslie Carter, the group postponed work on the album until the end of February. Howie Dorough said that they will not rush to record the album and its release is scheduled for 2012 or 2013 [5] .
In April 2012, a week before the start of the European part of the NKOTBSB Tour , the Backstreet Boys, together with former band member Kevin Richardson , met in London with producer Martin Terefe to work in the studio [6] . April 29, 2012 announced the return of Kevin Richardson to the group [7] . In July 2012, the group settled in a house in London to record a new album [8] . In London, in addition to Martin Terefe, the Backstreet Boys worked with Sasha Skarbek and Craig David [9] [10] . In the USA, recording continued with the participation of people such as Morgan Taylor Reid, Mika Gillory , GoodWill & MGI [11] , Lucas Hilbert , Geo Slam and Porcelain Black [12] [13] .
April 20, 2013 during the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the group, Backstreet Boys presented to the public fragments of eight new songs: “Soldier”, “In Your Arms”, “Show 'Em (What You're Made Of)”, “Trust Me” , Permanent Stain, Try, and Breathe [14] . The next day they uploaded a video with fragments of six new songs to their YouTube channel . May 15, 2013 the group first publicly performed the song "Permanent Stain" on the TV show "Good morning America . " During their performance, they also announced that a free digital copy of the song is included with every concert ticket for the In a World Like This Tour . The next day, the group posted on YouTube the official video with the lyrics. On June 17, 2013, the group uploaded the album’s tracklist on its official website [15] .
