History

The building was built in 1913 as the administrative building of the Diocesan Women's School, designed by the last Kharkov diocesan architect V.N. Pokrovsky . Initially, this building included an assembly hall and a refectory of the school.

In 1931, the administrative building of the Diocesan School, similarly to the rest of its buildings, was converted into the building of the KhPI dormitory and incorporated into its main campus, which was then called the "Giant".

During the Great Patriotic War, the building was severely destroyed and temporarily lost its functionality.

In 1963, at the initiative of the student activist of the KhPI, the former administrative building of the Diocesan School was rebuilt into the Palace of Students (architect Komirny V.K.). The idea was borrowed mainly from the Palace of Students of Dnepropetrovsk University , which was built at the time with the same purpose - to host a larger number of spectators during mass events of the university than was placed in the largest educational classrooms of universities and in traditional assembly halls of universities.
