Biography
A native of Hesse-Kassel .
Received a good home education.
He began his military service in artillery in the Hessian troops. He participated in the Seven Years' War of 1756–1763, during which he served in the Prussian headquarters under the command of Quartermaster General FW Bauer . After the war, he retired from military service in the rank of lieutenant colonel .
In 1771 he was accepted into the Russian service and assigned to the General Staff for the position of Chief Quartermaster with the rank of Major . At the beginning of 1786 - Ober Quartermaster in the General Staff with the rank of lieutenant colonel .
He was a quarter-general of Yekaterinoslav, and then the Southern Army of Field Marshal G. A. Potemkin , and participated in the Russian-Turkish war of 1787-1791. In the campaign of 1791, as part of the corps of General-Lieutenant M.I. Kutuzov, he distinguished himself in the Machinsky battle [1] , where he commanded the right flank (1st and 4th battalions of the Bug Yegerskiy Corps) of the advancing troops and “during the battle passed difficult places to master the heights. " For the battles of Machin he was awarded the Order of St. George, 3rd class.
From 1792 - Quartermaster General of the Ukrainian Army, developed a campaign plan against Polish confederates, taking into account the deployment of Russian troops along the Polish border.
In 1794, Pistor played a prominent role in organizing the retreat of parts of the Warsaw garrison to join the main Russian forces. He personally led this retreat and achieved minimal casualties among the personnel.
In early 1796, he filed a petition to the Highest Name for resignation, which was eventually granted in November of the same year.
After the resignation, Major General Ya. I. Pistor left for Kassel, where he lived until his death.
Interesting fact
Leaving Russia, Pistor took with him all the best maps and plans that were available at that time in the administration of the General Staff. His heirs returned a part of the documents he exported from Russia, which were transferred to the Military Topographical Depot.
