Early years
Abdul Basit was born in the village of Armant in southern Egypt. His father was a Kurd from Central Kurdistan.
In 1950, he moved to Cairo, where he captured Muslims in many mosques with his reading of the Qur'an. The case is described when, after reading the verses from Sura al-Ahzab within the 10 minutes set for him, the audience asked him not to interrupt, after which he continued to read the Qur'an for more than an hour and a half; his listeners were fascinated by the intonation, musical tone and the rules of Tajwid (recitation of the Koran).
Travel
Abdus-Samad traveled a lot to different countries; in 1961 he read the Qur'an at the Badshahi mosque, Lahore , Pakistan [ significance of fact? ] . In 1987, during his visit to America, Abdus-Samad told about one story that happened to him during a visit to the Soviet Union with then-President of Egypt Gamal Abdel Nasser .
Demise
Abdul-Basit Abdus-Samad continued to travel, reading the Qur'an, and he was equally greeted by crowds of ordinary people and princes, being honored by his presence, until his last days. At the end of his life, Abdul-Basit suffered from diabetes mellitus and liver failure. He died on Wednesday November 30, 1988 from acute hepatitis, leaving behind his three sons: Yasir, Hisham and Tarik; following in the footsteps of his father, Yasser also became kari. In recognition of his merits, memorial prayers for the Sheikh were held throughout Egypt, and both ordinary people and ambassadors of foreign states representing their countries and peoples participated in them.
