Biography

A native of Holstein , Christopher Ivanovich Peterson in 1744 joined the page at the Imperial Court, and in 1757 he was promoted to cell-page .

In 1760 he was released as a major in a foreign army. In 1761 he took part in hostilities in Prussia .

In 1763 , upon accession to the throne of Empress Catherine II, he was sent under Prince Dolgorukov as ambassador to Tsargrad, where he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. He served in the 65th Moscow Infantry Regiment . [one]

In 1769, he participated in the blockade and bombardment of the Khotin fortress under the command of the generals Rennenkampf and Kamensky, and on August 29 of the same year he was in the battle at the village of Gavrielovich in the brigade of General Kamensky. September 7, 1763 near Khotyn participated in a night attack of enemy retransceams in the column of Colonel Igelstrom ; then he was in the pursuit of the enemy in Moldova and in the occupation of the city of Iasi . During the occupation of Wallachia and the city of Bucharest, Peterson was in the corps of General Zamyatin.

With this corps, he was in a battle near Bucharest on January 13 and 14, 1770, and on February 4, at Jourzha. March 12, 1770 for the difference in the battle received the Order of St. George 3rd degree. In June of that year, he was in the battle against Abbas Pasha at the Ryaba Graves in the corps of General F.V. Bauer . Having distinguished himself in the battle of Cahul and in the pursuit of the enemy over the Danube under the command of General F.V. Bauer, Petersen was sent to Petersburg by courier with the news of victory and, recommended by P. A. Rumyantsev , “as an excellent and experienced officer” and was granted by the empress to the colonels .

In 1772, Petersen was sent by Rumyantsev to the Fokshansky and Bucharest congresses as a bailiff at the Turkish ambassadors. In July 1774 he was a bailiff at the Turkish ambassadors during the conclusion of peace in Kuchuk-Kainardzhi and kept a negotiation journal published in 1865 in “Readings in the Moscow Society of Russian History and Antiquities”.

In September 1774 , at the suggestion of Count Rumyantsev, Petersen was appointed charge d'affaires in Constantinople , where on January 13, 1775 he exchanged ratifications of the Kuchuk-Kainardzhiysky world with the supreme vizier. Having exchanged the ratification documents of the Kaynardzhi Tract, he achieved a pass through the Bosphorus of ships sailing with the Greek immigrants to Kerch . [2] In late July (or early August) 1775 - was promoted to full state councilors.

From 1779 to 1786 he was a resident minister in Danzig. In 1787 - appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary in Munich .

In May 1789, Petersen was temporarily appointed to the place of Count N.P. Rumyantsev in Frankfurt , but due to illness he could not go there and died in Munich on November 8, 1789 .

Rewards

  • He was awarded the Order of St. George of the 3rd degree (No. 5, March 12, 1770 ) - “ For the brave deed against the enemy on February 4, 1770 at the city of Jourget, by entering into a retransmission and mastering a battery of six guns, where he was wounded .” [3]
