Etumbi ( fr. Etoumbi ) is a settlement in the Department of the Western Cuvette in the north-west of the Republic of Congo . Most people live by hunting in the local forest.

Etumbi is one of the hotbeds of the recent outbreak of Ebola , which is believed to be caused by the local people eating the meat of dead animals from the forest. In 2003, 120 people died from the outbreak. The outbreak, recorded in May 2005 , triggered the introduction of quarantine on the territory of Etumbi.
