Spiegel - a wooden cylinder or a truncated cone, with a hemispherical recess on one side.
The purpose of the spiegel is to prevent the ball projectiles from turning over in the canal of the gun , than the projectile was provided with a point or tube forward movement [1] .
In the fortress artillery, the spiers were made of cardboard so that they did not hit the troops in front. The spiers were attached to the shells with resin, and they served in the field artillery for better connection in one cartridge of the core with gunpowder [1] .
Subsequently, in the fortress artillery, the spiers were replaced with rope wreaths, attached to the shell simply with ribbons [1] .
