Club career
Pupil of the Flamengo youth team, Paulo Nunes was part of the gold generation of the team's players from Gavea, such as Jalminha , Junior Bayano , Marquinhos , Nelio, Marcelinho Carioca and Savio . However, Paulo Nunes did not achieve fame at Flamengo and decided to succeed in other clubs, as was the case with his former youth teammates. Paulo Nunes, however, in 1990 won the Brazilian football cup with a club from Rio de Janeiro, the Carioca League 1991 and finally the 1992 Brazilian Championship [3] .
Paulo Nunes left Flamengo in 1995 and moved to Gremio , where he joined another player who also left Flamengo, Mario Jardela . Together with him, Paulo Nunes formed one of the most effective attacking ligaments in the history of Gremio.
At Gremio, Paulo Nunes spent the best time of his career, winning two Gaucho League titles, the Copa Libertadores , the Brazilian Championship, the South American Recopa and the Brazilian Cup; he was also the top scorer in the 1996 Brazilian Championship and 1997 Brazil Cup. His good form also earned him a place in the symbolic championship team from Placar magazine and the Brazil national team in America's Cup 1997 [4] .
After leaving Gremio in 1997, he continued to play for the Portuguese club Benfica . However, injuries and conflicts with teammates caused him to return to Brazil. In 1998, Paulo Nunes joined the Palmeiras . Paulo Nunes won the 1998 Brazil Cup (third in his career), the Mercosur Cup , and the 1999 Libertadores Cup. After losing to Manchester United in a match for the Intercontinental Football Cup, Paulo Nunes left Palmeiras [5] .
Paulo Nunez returned to Gremio for one season without much celebration. After that, he played for Corinthians , Gama , Al-Nasr and Mogi-Mirin , where he ended his career in 2003 at the age of 32 [6] .
