Biography
Born on September 27, 1917 in the village of Adrianople ( Lugansk region , Ukraine ) in a peasant family. He graduated from the eight classes of secondary school, then the Mining School. After graduation he worked as a turner at the mine.
In the Red Army since 1939 . Participated in the battles of World War II from June 1941 . In 1942 he graduated from the tank school, took part in battles on the Central Front , was a tank commander in the 195th tank battalion.
On October 20, 1943, Radchenko and one of the first crews in the unit crossed the Dnieper and occupied an important bridgehead. Tank Radchenko and other combat vehicles advanced 20 kilometers into the enemy rear and occupied the defensive line. During the fighting, two Soviet tanks managed to repel 4 enemy counterattacks and destroy a lot of manpower and equipment.
By the decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of January 15, 1944, for the courage and heroism shown during the crossing of the Dnieper and holding the bridgehead on its right bank, Lieutenant Radchenko was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union .
Member of the CPSU since 1945 . After the victory, he continued service in the USSR Armed Forces . In 1955 he graduated from the Military Law Academy .
In 1970, Radchenko went to the reserve in the rank of lieutenant colonel . He lived in Kiev .
He died on February 5, 2002 . He was buried in Kiev at the cemetery "Berkovtsy" .
