The President of Argentina, Juan Domingo Peron, was one of the main initiators of the construction of the race track for the national Grand Prix after the success of Juan Manuel Fangio . Built near wetlands in Buenos Aires , the circuit was opened in March 1952 by hosting the Peron Cup, won by Juan Manuel Fangio . In 1953 , the circuit took the first Formula 1 Grand Prix in history, which was not held in Europe (if you do not take into account the Indianapolis 500 , which formally was included in the classification of the Formula 1 championship, however, riders from Europe did not participate in it). Alberto Askari's victory at Ferrari was overshadowed by an incident at the stadium, which resulted in the death of nine people.
In the 1954 season, Fangio managed to rise to the highest step of the podium, ahead of his closest pursuer by more than a minute. In the next three Grand Prix of Argentina, Fangio managed to win twice more. In 1958 , Stirling Moss won the Grand Prix, having managed to overtake Fangio, who was finishing his career.
After the death of Domingo Peron and the departure of Fangio, the Argentinean Grand Prix was held only once in the 1960 season - until the appearance in Formula 1 of a new Argentine star Carlos Roiteman in 1972 . Roiteman began his career in Formula 1, winning a pole position in the "home" Grand Prix of Argentina. However, the victory at the Grand Prix was won at that time by two-time world champion Jackie Stewart . Then the Grand Prix was held continuously until 1981 . Another break in the Grand Prix series coincided with the Falkland conflict and the end of Roitmann's career in 1982.
In 1991, a private company bought the autodrom and reconstructed it, and in 1995 Formula 1 returned to Argentina. However, this return was not long, and after four Formula 1 Grand Prix, left the circuit in Buenos Aires .
