Located in the historic Quapaw quarter of Arkansas , the hotel is a Renaissance colonial cottage. It is surrounded by a series of gardens designed according to Smith. Paul Allen Smith, having received permission from the local historical commission, bought and moved the house to a desert area of 1,400 m2 in order to illustrate his 12 design principles, which formed the basis of his first book in the Garden Home series.

Smith also set up Moss Mountain Farm, also known as The Retreat, located on the banks of the Arkansas River. It includes more than 500 acres of farm, where the center is a cottage, built in the Greek style. Behind the cottage is a croquet field, framed by a summer kitchen and an art studio. There is a fountain in the garden, dividing it into two sectors. In one, there are numerous mixtures of annual and perennial grasses, roses, shrubs and ornamental plants. On the other side are orchards with apple trees, blueberries and other fruit trees. And every spring in this garden you can see more than 275,000 flowering daffodils.
