The sports program includes Olympic and non-Olympic sports: aikido , boxing , wrestling , judo , jiu-jitsu , karate , kendo , kickboxing , Thai boxing , savat , sambo , sumo , taekwondo , wushu , fencing . It was expected that more than 2000 athletes from 100 countries of the world would come to St. Petersburg. At the competition 136 sets of awards were played. For the northern capital, this sporting event has become the largest in the last 19 years [1] . In 2013, this was the only competition in Russia that was held under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee [2] .
The World Martial Arts Games 2013 are organized jointly by the international sports association SportAccord , the Russian Union of Martial Arts (RSBI), the Directorate of the World Martial Arts Games 2013.
Competitions were held in three arenas: the Peterburgsky Sports and Concert Complex, the Yubileiny Sports Complex (the small and large arenas), and the Arena . The opening ceremony was held in the " Ice Palace " on October 18.
In SC "Arena" held competitions in sambo , karate , wushu and taekwondo . In St. Petersburg SCC - aikido , wrestling , judo , kendo , sumo , fencing . In the IC "Jubilee" - boxing , jiu-jitsu , kickboxing , Thai boxing .

Cultural program

The ambassadors of the competition took part in the events of the cultural program, among them Ezio Gamba , Fedor Emelyanenko , Karina Aznavurian , Daria Tarasova and many other famous athletes.
Competition History
For the first time, the World Martial Arts Games were held in 2010 in Beijing in 13 disciplines. Victory in the team medal standings won the Russian team. Over the next year, a competitive procedure lasted for the selection of the next capital of the Games, which were scheduled to start in 2013. The Russian side prepared its application, its development was carried out by RSBI, the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation, the administration of St. Petersburg. As a result, Sport-Accord gave Russia the right to hold the next World Martial Arts Games in St. Petersburg.
In February 2012, the organizing committee of the competition was created, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak [5] .
Athletes
Athletes are selected at competitions held by international federations. Participation licenses are obtained by combatants who successfully compete in continental or world championships and championships. For the participation of Russian athletes were allocated 134 licenses. Participants in the competition include two-time Olympic champion in taekwondo Stephen Lopez , five-time world sumo champion Alan Karayev , two-time world champion in kickboxing Svetlana Ananyeva, three-time world champion in jujitsu Pavel Korzhavykh and many other martial arts stars.
