Biography

Nadezhda Augustinovna Nadezhdina (Adolf) was born on September 7, 1905 in the city of Gomel . Her father, Russified Latvian Augustine Adolf worked as a teacher in the 2nd Gomel gymnasium. In the 20s, she studied at the V. Ya. Bryusov Literary and Art Institute , after its closure in 1925 she graduated from the literary department of Moscow State University . Like many students, she supported the left opposition of Trotsky and Zinoviev , in connection with which she was briefly arrested in 1927 and 1929.

She married her classmate, poet Nikolai Dementyev . In 1935, her husband committed suicide by rushing from the balcony of the sixth floor. After the death of her husband, she began to write works for children about nature, about the life of plants and animals. With the outbreak of World War II, she came to work in the newspaper Pionerskaya Pravda . In 1947, Detgiz published her book, The Full Basket.

In 1950 she was arrested as a Trotskyite, was sentenced by the Special Conference at the Ministry of State Security of the USSR to 10 years in prison on charges of "counter-revolutionary agitation." The term was serving in Dubrovlag . She was released ahead of schedule in 1955, and was rehabilitated in 1956.

In 1960, her book "Morevisor Goes Swimming" was published. In 1963, her book Partizanka Lara was published about the exploit of a Leningrad schoolgirl Larisa Mikheenko , based on which the film “ That Far Summer ” was shot.

She did not like to recall the years of imprisonment, however, she wrote short memoirs about her life, including years of imprisonment. In 1990, an anthology of the Gulag poets-prisoners “Among Other Names” was published, which also included the poems by Nadezhdina created by her in custody.

Nadezhda Nadezhdina died on October 14, 1992. She was buried next to her husband at the Novodevichy cemetery (2nd section, 1st row).
