He lived in Germany from an early age, received school education in Shere and Ehangen. He received a theological education at Tübingen (1827–1830) and Munich (1830–1831) universities. In 1832 he was ordained a priest and from that time began teaching at the Catholic Theological Faculty in Marburg . In 1837 he headed the parish in Nassau. In his writings, Schmid sought to philosophically deepen Catholic dogma and bring Catholic teaching closer to evangelism . In 1849, Pope Pius IX did not approve his election to the Bishops of Mainz mainly for the work Der Der Geist des Katholicismus und Grundlegung der christl, which was contrary to orthodox Catholicism. Irenik "(Giessen, 1848-1850); Schmid then left the theological faculty, leaving only the department of philosophy behind him, and answered with the pamphlet “Ueber die jüngste Mainzer Bischofswahl” (Giessen, 1850). In the book Ultramontan oder Katholisch (1867), Schmid strongly condemned the oblivion of the true gospel teaching in the Catholic Church. In his philosophical works, he acted as a representative of speculative deism; such are his works Grundzüge der Einleitung in der Philosophie (Giessen, 1860) and Das Gesetz der Persönlichkeit (1862). In addition, Schmid wrote the following works: “Mitteilungen aus d. neusten gesch. d. Diöcese Mainz ”(Giessen, 1868) and“ Ueber die religiöse Aufgaben der Deutschen ”(after his death in“ Bildern aus der Geschichte der Kath. Reformbewegung ”, published by Lutterbeck, Mannheim, 1875). In 1867, he declared that he no longer wanted to belong to the Catholic Church, but, nevertheless, was buried according to the Catholic rite.
