Biography

After completing high school, he was called up for war and fought in World War II as a paratrooper. In 1947 , he was discharged with the rank of sergeant . After the army, he entered the Faculty of History of Moscow University (was assigned to the Department of History of the Middle Ages ), there he passed graduate school. In 1956 , the Ph.D. thesis was defended on the topic of peasant uprisings in Hungary in the Middle Ages.

For a short time he worked at the Fundamental Library of the USSR Academy of Sciences . Then in 1957 he joined the Institute of History of the USSR Academy of Sciences . After its reorganization, from 1968 until his death he worked as a research fellow at the Institute of Slavic Studies and Balkan Studies . He was the editor - in -chief and co-author of the three-volume publication History of Hungary ( 1971 - 1972 ). He defended his doctoral dissertation in 1991 on the topic “Hungarian people in the 9th – 17th centuries. : Problems of Ethnic Development, Socio-Economic and Foreign Policy History. ”

His main research interests were the history of Hungary and Slovakia in the Middle Ages, Russian-Hungarian relations, historiography and source studies in Ancient Russia .
