Biography

Representative of the Polish noble family of the Skorzhevsky coat of arms “ Little Fire ”. The son of Anthony Skorzhevsky and Anna Norits-Yaskulskaya, who came from an old Pomeranian family. He was married to Eleanor Shchanetskaya.

Built a palace in Rososhitsa with a beautiful park. In 1768, at the head of his own armed detachment, he participated in the Bara Confederation. In 1772, after the first partition of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, he was captured and imprisoned in Kostrzyn for resisting the Prussian troops. In 1788, Pavel Skorzhevsky was elected ambassador (deputy) from the Kalisz Voivodeship to the Four-year Seim . Supporter of the new Polish constitution on May 3, 1791 .

He was an active supporter of King Stanislav Ponyatovsky , from whom he received the awards of the Order of St. Stanislav and the White Eagle.

In 1794, Pavel Skorzhevsky took an active part in the Polish uprising led by Tadeusz Kosciuszko . He led an armed uprising in Greater Poland , which was part of the Prussian Kingdom . He participated in the battles of Pyzdra , Kalisz , Stavishin , Kol and Klodava . September 30, 1794 participated in the battle of Labiszyn , where General Jan Henryk Dombrowski entrusted him with command. After the defeat in the battle of Macieuvice, he fled to Dresden to avoid being arrested by the Prussian authorities. In 1806, after the defeat of Prussia and the occupation of Greater Poland by the French army, Pavel Skorzhevsky together with Mikhail Lipsky stood at the head of the detachment of hundreds of volunteers, with whom on November 7, 1806 he captured the city of Kalisz and captured the Prussian garrison. In November 1807, he formed in Kalisz armed Polish detachments. In 1812 he was elected Marshal of Commonwealth Ruin in the Kalisz Department, and after the Vienna Congress (1815), Russian Emperor Alexander I appointed him Senator - Governor Kalisz .

In 1819, Pavel Skorzhevsky was buried in the Bernardine church in Kalisz .
