Biography

Pupil (and friend) N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov , teacher (and friend) V. S. Kalinnikov (who dedicated his famous First Symphony to him), friend (and best man, together with S. V. Rakhmaninov ) F. I. Shalyapin . Consultant of the Moscow Russian Private Opera Mamontov, propagandist of the work of the “Mighty Handful”, the audience deserved the nickname of “Moscow Stasov”. The teacher and director of the Moscow Music School, the students earned the nickname "Simeon-quintereamer." An extraordinary music critic, among his brothers, he earned the nickname Magister elegantiarum - the teacher of grace.

In 1881, he was invited to teach music theory and harmony at the music school of A. P. Shostakovsky, which in 1883 became the Musical Drama School of the Moscow Philharmonic Society . In 1898-1901 the director of this school. Member of the Supervisory Board at the Synodal School of Church Singing, in 1907–10. Director of the Synodal School.

As a music critic, he first appeared in 1881 in Modern News (under the pseudonym Old Musician).

In the 1890s was a music consultant to the Moscow private Russian opera S. I. Mamontov . Thanks to his influence, the repertoire of the theater was largely determined by the operas of the Russian music school (Glinka, Dargomyzhsky, the composers of The Mighty Handful ).


Family

  • Father - Nikolai Sergeevich Kruglikov (1821–1901, Yaroslavl, Tugovskoye Cemetery), lieutenant of the Kexholm Grenadier Regiment, transferred to the army in 1844. He served in the militia in the Crimean campaign of 1853-1856.
  • Mother - Anastasia Semenovna Ozerov (1823-1896), daughter of Senator Semyon Nikolaevich Ozerov and Prince. Anastasia Borisovna Mescherskaya ( see portrait in the Tretyakov Gallery ).
  • Wife - Leontovich Ekaterina Georgievna. Children: Vera, Nikolay.
  • second cousin - artist Elizaveta Sergeyevna Kruglikova .
